Our annual Volunteer of the Year Award is named in memory a very special person who will always remain part of El Sol’s heart. Mike Phillips, Volunteer Coordinator from 2017 – 2020 was a retired banker, a Florida native, and a resident of Jupiter for over 45 years. He and his wife raised their two children in Jupiter, and he loved to brag of his five grandchildren. As a young man, he served as a missionary for the LDS Church, in Mexico, and came to love the people and the culture. Through this experience, Mike became bilingual and was thrilled to be able to use his language, and life experiences, to serve El Sol as the Volunteer Coordinator. Mike passed away in 2020 but we keep his legacy alive through this special award.
Each year, The El Sol Board of Directors and staff honor our volunteers with a Recognition Ceremony in which awards are given out to the top volunteers in our different programs and one person is named the Mike Phillips Volunteer of the Year.
