The annual health fair is an event we have had every year since 2011, prior to this date the El Sol health committee would have several community partners come in to do health screenings for our workers and community members. FAU- Diabetes Nurse Eugenia Millender assisted in getting our program together along with Diane Williams and Betzy Rega.
The partners include The Palm Beach County Department of Health, Caridad Center, Mission Medical, Jupiter pediatrics, CAP, Healthy mothers- Healthy Babies, Miami Children’s Urgent Care /Nicklaus Children’s Outpatient, The FAU Diabetes Center and FAU Autism as well as the Guatemalan Maya center. We have added to our list of providers through the years which has made an impact in prevention and awareness for our community.
Our community reach is anywhere from 50-100 community residents. Every year we strive to increase the awareness and education through routine screenings of the silent and not so silent killers that many in our community may not have access to, due to being uninsured.
We have had many success stories – diagnosing chronic diseases such as Diabetes, Epilepsy, hypertension or Autism can be a life changing event for the person. We realized that due to lack of knowledge or medical insurance assistance was essential to prevention and managing of their disease. Myclinic now holds monthly diabetes management classes which assists many of our clients who were diagnosed during our health fairs.
We are truly grateful to Allegany Franciscan who has been funding us since its inception. The lives of many have been changed due to their support.
